Processing Units Require Equipment

The process flow diagram describes the functionality of processing units in the facility. In order to achieve the purpose of the plant, equipment need to be employed to match the requirements of the processing unit. There are two datasheets which describe the transition between the process flow and the equipment performance. The process datasheet provides details regarding fluid properties, purpose of equipment, and general functionality requirements. While for equipment, the mechanical datasheet provides comprehensive mechanical details. Such details include: design, construction and inspection etc., as well as standards and preferences.

The engineering company embarks upon either preliminary or detailed design, depending on the equipment type. Upon finalising of mechanical requirements, a procurement process is embarked upon to involve various vendors and manufacturers.

Equipment Types for Oil & Gas

For the purpose of oil & gas in general, equipment may be classified into 4 types. There are static, vibrating, fired equipment and packages. For a specific engineering discipline, the classification may vary. See video for additional descriptions.

Stages in Equipment Acquisition

Below is an overview of the steps to take from the process flow diagram to the acquiring of equipment for each unit.
